Safe Lebanese beaches in 2006 season

Environment Hotline published the results of laboratory tests on sea water quality, carried along the Lebanese coast in May 2006. The survey, which concentrated on locations used by swimmers, was a follow up to the work carried out in June and September, 2005.
The results of these tests matched those of the National Marine Science Centre, and revealed once again alarming bacterial levels in most of the public beaches and several private beach resorts.
An updated map was produced and circulated, showing that the dangerous pollution zones of Tripoli, Chekka, Nahr el Kalb, Antelias, Dora, Ramlet el Baida, and Baisarieh, still threaten the Lebanese coastline. Fortunately, the Batroun-Byblos and Damour-Rmeileh coastlines still remain clean to beachgoers.
