MECTAT
(Middle East Centre for the Transfer of Appropriate Technology) is
an environmental resource centre, established in 1982 in Beirut, at
the premises of MEEA Ltd., a consulting firm on environmental
design. It is involved in promoting environmentally sound
technologies (EST) and environmental awareness in Lebanon, Arab
region and other countries. MECTAT is affiliated to Environment &
Development Magazine.
Fields of interest:
waste management (solid and liquid), renewable energy (solar,
biomass, wind), clean production and waste minimization, organic
farming and sustainable agriculture, small scale food processing and
preservation, development of fresh water resources, habitation,
environmental awareness and environmental management. |
Activities:
consultancies, conduction of training workshops and seminars,
publications, audio visual material, transfer of know-how through
various modes of mass communication.
MECTAT is in active cooperation with
more than 150 local, regional and international environmental NGOs,
groups and agencies, research centres and experts in more than 35
countries.
MECTAT has provided services (training
workshops, consultancies, publications) to the following
international organizations: UNEP, FAO, ILO, IFAD, UNIDO, UNICEF,
UNDP, UNESCO and others. Missions fielded and training programmes
implemented for these organizations in: Lebanon,
Syria,Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe,
Hungary, Italy and other countries. Services also provided to
ministries and close cooperation established with environmental
NGOs.
Publications of MECTAT:
(12 do-it-yourself technical booklets, posters ,newsletter and
feature articles) are distributed in all Arab countries.
