The
Youth Environment Parliament, in its first official
activity, presented an awareness program for more than
200 students from different schools of Lebanon at the
Annual Lebanese Book Festival of Antelias. Students
were trained on a meeting at EDM offices to perform
in a convenient way in front of the audience.
The
YEP members took in charge every single detail of the
event starting from the preparation of the presentations
to the hosting of different games, the decoration set
up to the LCD display and sound monitoring.
In
the first part, the members described the YEP program
and its goals to the audience. After this, one of the
YEP members introduced the main environmental problems
in Lebanon stressing on the solid waste management issue.
A third member explained the way how to voice these
issues to the environmental decision makers.
After the presentations, an open discussion took place
with the audience about their own regional environmental
problems. Each concerned person spoke about an environmental
problem he suffered of. Some of the YEP members took
in charge the responsibility to follow-up some of these
issues in a later stage.
In
the second part, a special environmental competition
was conducted between 3 groups and hosted by the YEP
members. A variety of games and environmental questions
were implied in this part. All students were showing
a high level of interest in the games and questions.
Prizes
were distributed to the winners by Miss Raghida Haddad
executive editor of the Al-Bia Wal-Tanmia (Environment
and Development) magazine. Some of the environmental
roll-up panels were also exposed to be viewed by the
audience that was visiting the fair.
A
souvenir photo was taken for all the members in the
memory of the first YEP meeting.
